Abstract
This letter is one from a collection of four letters from Lieutenant Colonel Edward Nicholls, commander of the British forces in the Floridas, and Captain William H. Percy, Senior Officer of the Gulf of Mexico. They were signed and certified as true copies by Governor William C. C. Claiborne in the same year. Nicholls and Percy attempted to persuade the citizens of New Orleans, the Kentuckians residing in Louisiana, and Jean Lafitte to cooperate with the British in effecting the fall of the city. The British offered the citizens of New Orleans relief from "the American usurpation," and the Kentuckians free navigation of the Mississippi River and the right to deposit in New Orleans. The Baratarians were offered protection of their property, a full pardon, and land in the British colonies. In return, they were to give their vessels to the British and end harassment of the Spanish.

Abstract
Captain Percy informs Laffite that he has dispatched Capt. Lockyer to Barataria under the pretence of an inquiry into British merchantmen recently seized by the Baratarians. Lockyer, he points out, has authorization to demand "instant restitution" and, in the event of refusal, to destroy the Baratarian fleet. Percy then outlines the rewards to Lafitte for assisting Great Britain by placing his vessels under his (Percy's) command. The manuscript copy is certified as true by Gov. Claibourne.

Abstract
Thomas Bolling Robertson was born in Prince George County, Va., graduated from William and Mary College in 1795, and practiced law in Virginia until he moved to the Territory of Orleans in 1805. In 1807, Thomas Jefferson appointed him secretary of the territory. He held several state offices, was Louisiana's first member of the House of Representatives, 1812-1818, was governor, 1820-1824, and became a United States judge for the District of Louisiana in 1824. In this letter to "Dear Sir," Robertson refers to the War of 1812, commending the recipient of his letter on Virginia's reception of the British and expressing his concerns about British and Spanish loyalists in Louisiana, as well as friction between the French and American residents and the potential harm the diverse population, "a thing of shreds and patches," poses in the war. He also mentions his standing in the recent election.

Abstract
Letters from Joseph Thomas to John McDonogh refer to frontier conditions along the Amite River and the bayou around Barbara, Louisiana. Thomas reports on plantation matters including sugarcane, corn, potato, and pumpkin cultivation. He also discusses the construction of roads, the illegal felling of McDonogh's timber, and his concerns that Shepherd Brown, McDonogh's partner, may attack the people of Bayou.

In this indenture, Francois Jacob (described as a young free negro) is sponsored by Jean Francois Jacob as an apprentice to Francois Marsilly to learn to be a cobbler. In French.

Indentures in which at least one party was a free person of color were selected from among all of the indentures available. This identification was made either by the designation of an individual as a free person of color in the record or when a phenotypical description like "quadroon," "mulatto," or "Negro" was given and there was no information to indicate the person was enslaved.
