Abstract
Certified copy of property survey map originally created by Pintado in 1808. Original map in Spanish; notes on certified copy in English. 'Seal of office in the City of New Orleans this 25th day of January 1843 year of our Lord and the Sixty-seventh of the Independence of the U.S of America. (Signed) Bringier, Surveyor Genl.' 'A true copy of the document on file in my office. December 26th, 1846.' Pintado explains (in Spanish) the difficulties he encountered on this project. Far right upper (southeast) area of map shows unattached territory (Crown lands). Remainder of area (north, east, and west) in private hands, owned by Dominique Bouligny, Ursino Bouligny, Gilberto Andry, and Jean Baptiste Labatut.

Abstract
True copy of a survey of a tract of land near the Mississippi River, Pointe Coupee, Eastern District of Territory of Orleans, for Major General La Fayette, made by C. [Charles] Morgan. In recognition for his military service and monetary support of the United States' cause in the American Revolution, in 1803 Congress voted to give Lafayette a grant of 11,520 acres of land, eventually located in Louisiana. Verification that the land was not claimed by other persons is also on the document and signed by B. [Benedicte] Van Pradelles, Register of the Land Office of the Eastern District of the Territory of Orleans. The original plat was made Feb. 11, 1808; this copy is noted to have been sent to the Surveyor General's Office of Donaldsonville, La., Oct. 3rd, 1849. On p. [2] of the document, R. W. Boyd, Surveyor General, notes, "The foregoing is a true copy of an unauthenticated document, sent to this office with a letter, dated February 1st 1836, from the commissioner of the General Land Office, and now on file in this office."

Includes two petition to Judge Louis Moreau Lislet for a writ of habeus corpus from Johnston; an affidavit from Justice of the Peace A. Bonamy regarding Johnston's petition, and Lislet's rulings on the petitions (written on petition's verso).

File contains petition, judgement, summons, deposition, answer, and fieri facias. Petition of George King, written by E. Bradish, sought $200 from Francois Mathuriu Guerin for a mare and colts. Guerin was a New Orleans alderman. Deposition of Isaac Leftwich sworn before Justice of the Peace B. Cenas. Answer written by J.H. de Mahy Desmontils. On July 28, 1808, Judge L. Moreau Lislet ruled in favor of the defendant. Summons and fieri facias written by Thomas S. Kennedy. Fieri facias states that the King was "N.E.I.," and a mare with three colts were seized Sept. 6, 1808, leaving a balance of $296.372. Returned on Oct. 26, 1808.

Dispute between Cochran & Ray and Jean Gravier regarding delivery of 59,000 bricks on May 19, 1803. File contains petition, affidavits, answer, judgement, petition for appeal, several documents of evidence, and fieri facias. Petition written by A.L. Duncan for plaintiff. Affidavits of Gravier and Ebenezer Bradish. Answer written by Claude Francois Buhourd D'Argy. On April 21, 1807, Judge L. Moreau Lislet ruled for the plaintiffs in the amount of $649 plus suit costs. Fieri facias written by Thomas S. Kennedy. Fieri facias, dated Aug. 10, 1808, contains note that property was sold.

Dispute over the payment of a promissory note for $264.22 written by John Cornen and Paul Gavace to Davis & Harper on March 2, 1805. File contains petition, judgement, summons, fieri facias and promissory note. On Dec. 4, 1807, Judge L. Moreau Lislet ruled for the plantiff in the amount of $254.22 plus court costs. Noted on verso of summons that a female slave was seized and released at the request of the plaintiff after the defendant promised to pay the debt in "a short time." Summons and fieri facias written by Thomas S. Kennedy. Fieri facias dated Jan. 29, 1808.
