Abstract
The emancipation docket, dated July 1, 1846-July 7, 1851, contains a chronological record of decisions made by the First Municipality Council in regard to the emancipation of enslaved persons living in the area of the Vieux Carré. Each record includes the petitioner's name and the name of the enslaved person to be emancipated. Some records include the age and physical description of the person to be emancipated. In French.

Abstract
Chiefly petitions, subpoenas, public instruments of protest, and bills of exchange for legal cases against Auguste Metoyer, a free man of color, in the State of Louisiana between the years 1830-1846. The legal documents chronicle Auguste Metoyer's financial and legal difficulties stemming from debts owed, primarily to white planters and businessmen, during and following the economic depression of the late-1830s.

Cases against Metoyer include: Thomas H. Kiddu & Charles Head vs. Jesse Smith & Auguste Metoyer; Terence Chaler vs. Birtt & Metoyer; Sherbume & Campbell vs. Auguste Metoyer; Narcisse Prudhomme vs. Auguste Metoyer; Ambrose Secomte vs. Auguste Metoyer & François Gassion Metoyer; the Union Bank of Louisiana vs. Auguste Metoyer, Joseph Augustin Metoyer, and Joseph Metoyer; and William Porter vs. Auguste Metoyer & François Gassion Metoyer.

Of note is a personal letter to Auguste Metoyer from Nicolas Charles LeRoy, a school teacher from Versailles, France who once taught school in the Isle Brevelle community. In the letter, LeRoy discusses setting up a three-way meeting between themselves and J. B. Adelé and sends his regards to Auguste Metoyer, his wife, and his little girl.

Ten of the twelve items are written in French, with eight of these items containing text in both French and English.

Abstract
Letters written by Andrew Durnford, a free person of color, to John McDonogh regarding the affairs of his sugar plantation. The letters concern shipments of sugar that Durnford sent to McDonogh to place in the care of a broker, the status of Durnford's crops, and McDonogh's failing health. In a letter dated 1 November 1847, Durnford informs McDonogh that his slave, Jackson, has run away. Some documents are in French.

Abstract
Chiefly records kept by the First Municipality Council for those enslaved persons whose emancipation petitions were approved by the council. Loose pages of reports of the other two municipalities are also included. The record typically indicates the name of the slaveholder (usually the petitioner), name of the enslaved person (with age, color, and alias in some cases), and date of council approval.

Only records pertaining to the emancipation of enslaved persons were scanned from the volume for use in this project.

Primarily notarized documents including slave bills of sale, oaths, estate inventories, collection orders, procurations, and financial records, signed in 1847 by the Natchitoches Parish notary public. Papers relating to free people of color include a lease granted by Emile Dupard; the receipt of Os. [Oscar?] Dubruil; a mortgage granted by Marie Rose Metoyer; and the annulment of a slave bill of sale by Augustin Metoyer to his son, Jean Baptiste Metoyer. Also present are slave bills of sale concerning the following free persons of color: Pierre Metoyer, Manuel Llorens, Jean Baptiste Metoyer, and Charles Nerestan Roques. The bulk of the items are in French.
