Abstract
Chiefly bills, receipts, letters, and legal documents belonging to Louis Martin Joson, Joseph Pelagie, Joseph Perot, and other members of the Joson and Perot families, descendents of free people of color.

Legal documents include a subsistence supplies bond for Louis Martin Joson of Joson Plantation in Natchitoches Parish (1868); a statement of account with the Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen, & Abandoned Lands (1869); a subpoena for Joseph Pelagie to appear in court (1870); and a settlement of account between the widow of Joseph Perot and E. Dupré (1874).

Financial documents include a receipt for Marie Rosalie Perot, bills and receipts for cotton and dry goods sales, and tax receipts for Louis Martin Joson.

Letters and notes include letters to Atala Chelette (1874-1875), a letter to Mary Tyler Joson (1875), and a note signed by Mary Athalie Joson (1873). Four documents are in French.

Abstract
The folder is comprised of receipts and tax notifications belonging to Jane Giddings, a free woman of color. Included amongst these items are receipts for her daughter Aldometer's school tuition, a railroad tax receipt, a receipt for pew rent from St. Joseph's Cathedral, notifications of late tax payment, and rent receipts from Aristide Allain, a boy who lived with Jane and Aldometer. Several receipts belonging to Aldometer's father, George Mather, are also represented.
