Abstract
The oversize folder contains indentures conveying land, dating from 1802-1836, and a petition for the emancipation of Harriet Battles and her child, Ann Battles, by Gabriel Tichenor in the State of Mississippi, dated May 18, 1822-November 3, 1824.

An indenture, dated March 26, 1802, conveys land in Adams County, Mississippi from St. James Beauvais, Thomas Prather, and James Smiley to Joseph Newman. The document states that Thomas Prather and James Smiley are from the State of Kentucky.

The second indenture, dated May 1829, conveys a lot of land in the city of Natchez from Gabriel Tichenor and his wife Elizabeth Tichenor to Harriet Battles, a free person of color and former enslaved person of Gabriel Tichenor.

The third indenture, dated March 29, 1836, conveys a property on State Street in the city of Natchez from Peter M. Lapice to Joseph F. Lapice.
The fourth indenture in the folder conveys a lot of land in the city of Natchez to William Johnson, a free man of color, on November 20, 1826.

The petition for the emancipation of Harriet and Ann Battles represents Gabriel Tichenor's attempts to free Harriet Battles and her daughter before moving the mother and daughter to Cincinnati, where both were granted freedom under Ohio state law.

Abstract
Record of slave emancipations before the Third Municipality Council, dated June 29, 1846-March 3, 1851. The records are copies of petitions for emancipation, which offer the name of petitioner, name and age of the enslaved persons, date of consideration of the petition, and a record of the proceedings ratifying decisions initially made for each petition. Though the volume as a whole contains other records kept by the Third Municipality Council, only those records pertaining to the emancipation of enslaved persons have been scanned for this project.

Abstract
Father Borella, a native of Sardinia, appointed the Bishop of New Orleans as the universal heir of all the goods he possessed in the United States and asked that the value of these be used to build and furnish a church in Saint Martin Parish. For memorial masses to be celebrated in his name, Father Borella set aside the sum of 1,000 piastres. He bequeathed legacies to his godson François Marcel Dumatrait and to "ma negresse Magdelaine." Lastly, he appointed A. Dumartrait as his executor. A note on the copy indicates that Father Borella died on 1836 January 21.

Abstract
Before Notary Public Théodore Seghers in New Orleans, Marigny and his wife declared that, by an act passed on 1836 June 27, Marigny had acquired from Marie Louise Panis, a free woman of color, 490 shares of capital stock in the Citizens' Bank. They acknowledged that they owed on a sugar plantation situated in Plaquemines Parish, nine leagues below New Orleans on the right bank of the Mississippi. Also mortgaged as part of the property were the house, the sugar mill and ancillary buildings, an infirmary, kitchens, slave cabins, a warehouse, tools, carts, and livestock, as well as seventy slaves (names and ages given), who lived there. Edmond Jean Forstall, President of the Citizens' Bank, accepted the mortgage.
