Abstract
Legal and financial papers of the Johnson family for the years 1874-1899 include tax receipts; teachers' licenses; receipts for goods, rent, and burials; promissory notes; agreements; and stock certificates. Most of the materials belonged to Anna Johnson, who managed her family's estate.

Items relating to Ann Battles Johnson's estate, William Johnson's estate, Richard M. Johnson, Carlito Garrus, Emma Hoggatt, Katharine Johnson, and Alice Johnson are also represented. Items of note include: a receipt for funds taken from the estate of William Johnson for medical care during Ann Battles Johnson's last illness (dated January 1, 1874), a receipt to Richard M. Johnson for the burial of his daughter (dated March 14, 1892), a deed in trust from Anna Johnson to Ernest E. Brown for the ""Swamp Tract"" of land on Peachland Plantation (dated December 12, 1896), and teachers' licenses for Anna Johnson, Alice Johnson, Katharine Johnson, and N. J. Fleming, who were teachers in the Natchez primary schools (dated 1899).
