Abstract
The oversize folder contains teacher's certificates, a list and oath of taxable property, an address, and a map belonging to the Johnson family, who were free people of color and their descendents.

The three teacher's certificates (dated 1873-1875) belonged to Anna and Josephine Johnson for their efforts teaching primary education to freed African Americans in the Natchez Public School System.

The list and oath of taxable property for Robert McCary, a free man of color, is dated May 1, 1866 and includes the value for four lots of land, a clock, furniture, and a piano from the estate of William Johnson.

The broadside contains a printing of a speech entitled "Address Delivered Before the Good Samaritan Society, of Natchez Miss., on Their 12th Anniversary, Tuesday July 11, 1876." Theodore H. Greene delivered this speech to the African American community of Natchez, Mississippi in celebration of their 12-year anniversary of freedom from the institution of slavery.

The colored map was printed by Rand McNally & Co. of Chicago in 1875 and shows the railway system of Missouri, Kansas and Texas.

Abstract
Ovide Daigle, Jr (1877 - 1958) or Ovide Daigle, Sr. made this cane from cypress wood. The initials "OD" are carved into the neck of the cane handle. The cane handle is carved to resemble a head of a small animal. Ovide Daigle, Jr. married Julia LeBlanc, having six children. His second wife, Andrea LeBlanc he married on July 8th, 1911 in St. Martin parish. She had three children at the time of the marriage. Andrea LeBlanc and Ovide Daigle, Jr. had 7 children between 1911 and 1926. Ovide worked on the Eraste Landry Plantation after moving to Lafayette. He is buried in Calvary Cemetery in Lafayette, La.

Abstract
Materials consist primarily of financial papers relating to Miles Terrell's debt and business transactions. Documents include promissory notes, accounts, drafts for payments, and invoices. A court summons dated January 27, 1875 requires Miles Terrell to appear in court to answer a plaintiff's demand for payment for nursing services. Papers include a receipt showing payment of this debt, dated May 28, 1875. Terrell family genealogy notes, dated 1875, record the births of Miles Terrell's sons, Gloucester and Marion. A note written by Violet Terrell on October 1, 1875 instructs William Deare to pay Miles Terrell for board and use of a horse. A note written by James Hicks on November 14, 1875 asks Grean Richey to pay Miles Terrell.

Other items include an invoice for drugs (dated 1876), an order for sewing supplies and fabric (dated 1877), and a shipping document for the sale and shipment of cotton (dated 1877).
