Marie was the most famous and powerful "voodooienne" in the history of New Orleans, and, upon her death, her "congregation" split into a number of insignificant cults.

B&W photo, circa 1970s. Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop. New Orleans, Louisiana. Written on photo: Erected at the end of the 18th century. An example of a French Colonial Louis XV townhouse. Built by the Lafitte Brothers, slave dealers who posed as blacksmiths to hide their real trade. The small one story builidng is now used as a bar. Briquette entre poteaux construction is visible where the plaster has crumbled away to expose the soft brick between framing cypress timbers.
