Abstract
The notebook of the Johnson family, free people of color, dates from January 1854 to October 1866 and contains record of money spent on shoes and clothing for the Johnson family children and servants, record of wages paid, and several cash book entries for expenses, dated 1866.

Entries for clothing and other household purchases were probably created by Ann Battles Johnson, who was a free woman of color and the wife of the barber and diarist William Johnson. Entries for the renting of stables and the purchase of clothing, dated 1866, were probably written by Anna Johnson, a free woman of color and the daughter of Ann Battles and William Johnson. Many of the pages of the notebook are blank.

Includes a land sale by Benoits Laurents and a mortgage by Etienne Lacaze both granted to Auguste Metoyer. Also present is a land sale by Pierre Lacour to Louis Balthazar and a land sale by Suzanne also known as ""Pinquette,"" a free woman of color, to Jean Joseph Emile Rast.
