Abstract
From 1986-2019, The Jazz Archivist (ISSN: 1085-8415) served as a newsletter and non-peer reviewed journal covering jazz and New Orleans music. Published by the William Ransom Hogan Jazz Archive, the publication featured articles and updates written by Hogan Archive staff, as well as independent researchers and scholars. The Jazz Archivist ceased publication after its 2019 issue.

Abstract
Memoir by Rabbi George Driesen about his work as a civil rights attorney in Louisiana as an independent associate of the Black-owned New Orleans law firm, Collins, Douglas and Elie. Driesen describes his work on Hicks v. Crown Zellerbach, Jenkins v. City of Bogalusa School Board, his experiences bonding voting rights activists out of jail in Vidalia and Ferriday, as well as his encounters with Isaac “Ike” Reynolds, Robert Hicks and Vidalia Mayor Sidney Murray. Driesen’s 1966 letter to the Louisiana Attorney General detailing racist incidents at the Bogalusa High School is attached as an appendix. (The original letter is housed at the Louisiana State Archives, Accession #P1985-192.)

Abstract
This interview is part of the Voices of Ascension Oral History Project. Favorite discusses her experiences with segregation and the Civil Rights Movement growing up in South Louisiana. She talks about how the Geismar community changed as the petrochemical industry grew and how this growth inspired her father to become a strong community advocate. Favorite goes on to talk about how her time at Louisiana State University changed her life as she was exposed to more subtle racism and rejection from religious institutions. Favorite additionally talks about the opportunities she had to travel the world and study art, as well as how these experiences shaped her later work. Finally, she considers how she was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and how it challenged her community.

Abstract
Gary Duncan was the plaintiff in Duncan v. Louisiana, a landmark Supreme Court case that established the right to a jury trial applied in all states, except in cases of minor crimes. In 1966, he was arrested and charged with battery for touching the arm of a white teenager while breaking up a fight. He talks about his family and childhood in segregated Plaquemines Parish during the era of Leander Perez; his arrest and meetings with attorneys Collins, Douglas and Elie, and Richard Sobol of the Lawyers Constitutional Defense Committee; his re-arrest and subsequent appeals all the way to the Supreme Court; the emotional distress he experienced and the heroic support he received from his mother and family; and finally he reflects on the lack of equity and justice for Black Americans today.

Barbara Hicks Collins was a student activist in the Bogalusa civil rights movement and the daughter of Bogalusa civil rights leaders, Robert and Valeira Hicks. She discusses her family and childhood; the impact of the 1964 Civil Rights Act; the night of February 1, 1965 when her family was threatened and how that led to the Bogalusa chapter of the Deacons for Defense and Justice; the Bogalusa Civic and Voters League and the first student walkout; attending Dillard University and her career as a nurse; moving back to Bogalusa after Hurricane Katrina, spending time with her father and her reasons for starting the Hicks Foundation. She reflects on the legacy of the 1960s civil rights movement and the Black Lives Matter movement today.
