Written on photo: The two-day long Pecan Festival in Colfax, Louisiana, initiated in 1969 in connection with the centennial anniversary of Grant Parish, attracts an average of 30-35 thousand festival goers. Pecans were a native food for the Indians long before early settlers of the area relized the commercial value of the bountiful crop. By the early 1900s, almost every homesite in Colfax had pecan trees for shade and landscape purposes, as well as for the extra profit.

Abstract
B/W photo, 1930s. Big Creek, which winds though Camp Grant-Walker, has been transformed into a beautiful swimming pool, further beautified by rock walls and bridges. Approximately 400 tons of rock have been mined from a nearby hill and used by WPA workmen to construct a waterfall in the creek, several foot bridges and an amphiteatre which has a seating capacity of 300 persons.

It shows what the WPA is doing to transform the site into one of Louisiana's most beautiful recreation centers. Fourteen modern cabins are being constructed and water has been impounded in Big Creek to form an attractive swimming pool.
