B&W photo, 1970s. Zemurray Gardens, near Hammond, Louisiana. Written on photo: Zemurray Gardens is an unusual garden in the forest, featuring a beautiful azalea trail which wraps around a large lake in the center of the gardens. Quaint bridges cross narrow spans of the water, and one leads to a tiny island in the lake. Most of the azaleas are the delicate looking wild variety which represent an astonishing variety of pink and red hues. The garden is extremely unusual in landscaping.

President Gladney J. Tinsley, Senators Russell Long and Allen J. Ellender, and Miss Jane Hadley, Mrs. Barkley's daughter." " Barkley Charms Hearers at SLC Anniversary Fete."Vice-President Alben W. Berkley late in May paid Louisiana a visit, his first since 1948, when he spoke in New Orleans while a candidate for the vice-presidential post. Chief purpose of Barkley's trip was to be principal speaker at cermonies marking the 25th anniversary of Southeastern Louisiana college's founding at Hammond. The same night he spoke in New Orleans at an Armed Forces day banquet, the following day in Baton Rouge at a meeting sponsored by the United Jewish Appeal. Mrs. Barkley accompanied the vice-president on the trip from Washington in his private plane. They were joined in New Orleans by Miss Jane Hadley, daughter of Mrs. Barkley and a student at Newcomb college in New Orleans. Speaking in the Strawberry stadium at Hammond, VP Barkley said that he had always intended to visit Hammond, particularly after Hammond's strawberry queen presented him with a crate of strawberries in Washington earlier this year. He referred to the visit of Miss Bonnie Watson, strawberry belt beauty who made the trip to the nation's capital in March."
