Abstract
In this indenture, Jack Spicer (described as a free mulatto of 26 years of age) contracts as a servant to William Francis. Jack Spicer was liberated by William Francis for imprisonment for debt and promises to labor for WIlliam Francis for two years.

Indentures in which at least one party was a free person of color were selected from among all of the indentures available. This identification was made either by the designation of an individual as a free person of color in the record or when a phenotypical description like "quadroon," "mulatto," or "Negro" was given and there was no information to indicate the person was enslaved.
