Abstract
Chiefly letters written by Lewis H. Guerlain (active 1784-1858) to John McDonogh concerning the management of Guerlain's corn and sugarcane plantation, Long View. Guerlain discusses purchases of enslaved persons, illnesses, and runaway slaves as well as the status of his crops. Also present are two letters by R. R. (Ralph Randolph) Gurley (1797-1872) who describes the conditions in Liberia and the legal battles facing the American Colonization Society in the mid-1840s.

Abstract
Handwritten endorsement signed by Grand-Pré, Commandant of the Natchez-Baton Rouge District, of a petition submitted by John Rollins of Natchez, agent for John McBride of Washington in the Mississippi Territory, for permission to introduce a new patented cotton processing machine. The petition includes a detailed description of the machine and it's function.

Abstract
Louis Moreau Lislet's examination of the suit between Jean Gravier and the city of New Orleans regarding ownership of the Batture. The examination describes the history of the area from a 1763 survery to the present suit. Gravier inherited a substantial amount of land from Bertrand Gravier, to which he claimed the Batture belonged. Moreau Lislet served at the attorney for the city in a series of disputes regarding the property from 1806 to the 1820s. French property law dating back to 1566 is also discussed.

Emancipation of the slave Daniel, described as a man of color, by Henry Clay of Fayette, Kentucky. Daniel, who formerly belonged to Henry Clay's brother, John Clay, and James Bristow of New Orleans, was 32 or 33 at the time of his emancipation. Certified on verso by John D. Young, Clerk of Court, and Sam Blair, Justice of Peace.

Abstract
Certificates, municipal records, sworn statements, a letter, and financial documents relating to free persons of color and enslaved persons in the New Orleans area. Three documents verify the status of free people of color: an affidavit by Michel Amfoux certifying that Marie Justine "Sangosse" was born free; a certificate by P. A. Delachaise, justice of the peace; and a statement by Francis Wadrick, a man of color, both attest that James Brown, a prisoner in New York, was a free man of color and never an enslaved person. A few documents concern the ownership or transfer of enslaved persons by the City of New Orleans and bear the signatures of city officials, including mayors James Mather and Augustin Macarty, and city jailor B. Puche. A document signed by James Mather and a receipt given by P. Puche to Mr. McDonald concern runaway slaves. The documents are in French, English, and Spanish.

Certified copy of property survey map originally created by Pintado in 1808. Original map in Spanish; notes on certified copy in English. 'Seal of office in the City of New Orleans this 25th day of January 1843 year of our Lord and the Sixty-seventh of the Independence of the U.S of America. (Signed) Bringier, Surveyor Genl.' 'A true copy of the document on file in my office. December 26th, 1846.' Pintado explains (in Spanish) the difficulties he encountered on this project. Far right upper (southeast) area of map shows unattached territory (Crown lands). Remainder of area (north, east, and west) in private hands, owned by Dominique Bouligny, Ursino Bouligny, Gilberto Andry, and Jean Baptiste Labatut.
