Abstract
Dispute regarding a contract David Cummins and James Coin had with James Berthould to travel on the Ohio and Mississippi rivers in his boat. File contains petition, judgement, affidavits, attachment, answer and fieri facias. Petition is not signed but probably written by Ebenezer Bradish as his name appears as the attorney for the plaintiffs. Affidavits of Cummins and Coin. Answer of Felix Arnaule, as an agent of Cummins and Coin, written by Etienne Mazureau. On Nov. 9, 1805, Judge James Workman ruled for the plaintiffs in the amount of their demand plus suit costs. Attachment and fieri facias written by Thomas S. Kennedy. Fieri facias contains note on verso that it was "settled without seizure."

Had ma pic' of ev'y boat/ Sunk, burned o'still uh float./ Side o' sturnweel, big o' small,/ Chim'lys sho't chim'lys tall./ Tek de Katie! _ Not uh one could 'gin tu shine/ 'Side o' huh, an' look so fine/ In dat bran new wedin' gown/ Wid gol' and lace all trim uh 'roun'./ Dat's Katie! _ We'n she wan' tuh she can run,/ Cap'in tell hit easy fun;/ Pass de uthu's on de way-/ Got de proof o' whut he say/ Wid Katie _ Sets de watah lak uh swan,/ Comin' up at urly mo'n,/ In dat dress all trim in white,/ Sho'ly is uh pleasin' sight./ Miss Katie! _ If Ole Gab'il hap'in' 'roun'/ Jedgment trumpet fu' tuh sound',/ See huh look so clean an' new,/ Dis heah whut old Gab'il do/ Please him so he wave his han',/ Ax de cap'in if he can/ Tek him back tuh Promis' Lan'/ On de Katie. Par's Pullbone." from Jeffersonville, Ind., by Howard, 1871. 284x43x8.7. Engines, 38's - 10ft. Nine boilers, each 40" by 32 ft, 2 flues. Paddlewheels 39 ft. diameter working 17 ft. buckets. Her engines were made for the fame Robert E. Lee but Captain Cannon changed his mind and had larger engines made for the Lee. Capt. J.M White, who commanded, wanted to name her Lady Lee to honor the widow of Gen. Robert E. Lee, but was outvoted. Bult for the New Orleans- Lake Providence trade. She was hard to hold, quite fast and buried her head under full headway. Hit a snag at Trotter's Point opposite Helena, Ark., on her maiden trip and sank. During summer months ran New Orleans - St. Louis on occasion; was at St. Louis 1871. Downbound in a fog with 3,000 cotton bales abourd, drifed into a crevasse at Bonnet Carre, La., and lodged 2,200 feet from the Mississippi River, Jan. 23, 1876. Remained there for some time. She was returned to Jeffersonville in May 1878 after quite some struggle over the Falls, ascending the Indiana chute, assisted by towboat "Resolute". She was dismantled at Jeffersonville. The hull became a wharfboat on the Ouachita River at Monroe, La., where it served until 1879-1880 when it burned along with the packet "Fairplay." The machinery went to the "Ed Richardson."

The Natchez IX sails principally in and around New Orleans, but is shown here berthed with its river rival at Baton Rouge."
