Abstract
In 1875 the New Orleans, Jackson & Great Northern Rail Road went into receivership, came under the control of the Illinios Central Railroad, and was renamed the Chicago, St. Louis, and New Orleans Railroad. "Hardee's New Map of New Orleans Including Street Railway Guide, 1878," when describing the street railroad Jackson Railroad Depot Line, states, "The cars of this line start at a station on Magnolia Street near the Passenger Depot of the New, Orleans, St. Louis, and Chicago Railroad (formerly Jackson Railroad) . . .."[p. 19] Hardee's later states the Chicago, Saint Louis, and New Orleans Passenger Depot and Repair Shops "occupy a large tract of ground on the suburbs of the city, in the vicinity of the Passenger Depot building, at the corner of Calliope and Magnolia streets." [p. 25] The inscription verso may be a common error conflating the railroad name with a nearby street name.

Abstract
Signed ms. Signature of cartographer reads "Carlos Trudeau." Shows eleven buildings with names of the property owners along the Chemin Royal (Tchoupitoulas Street), a canal on Podras Street (Poydras Street) projected by Bertrand Gravier, and gardens. Covers area from Camp Street to Chemin Royal (Tchoupitoulas Street), and Girod Street to Gravier Street. Intersection of Magazin Street (Magazine Street) and Podras St. at center. Map is arranged with a West/East orientation, with West being at the top of the map.

Shows double line of trees on either side of proposed canal (area which would later become Canal Street); area shown is from Levee Street (Decatur Street) to Rampart Street, then from the proposed canal (Canal Street) to Bienville Street. Also shows the Custom House, and location of Fort Bourgogne. Includes endorsement written in French. Map is arranged with a Northwest/Southeast orientation, with Northwest being at the top of the map.

Abstract
Bonds of free people of color, who were permitted to reside in the First Municipality of New Orleans, 1843 May 8-1844 April 10. Fifty documents bound together. In the decades prior to the Civil War, government officials of Louisiana became more and more concerned with what they perceived as being the disproportionate growth of the number of free people of color, as Louisiana law designated them, in the total population of the state. The Legislature consequently sought to restrict the size of the free black population by enacting laws of increasing stringency. Early state laws prohibited the immigration of free blacks from other states or the Caribbean islands and declared that those already in Louisiana who did not fulfill certain residency requirements were ineligible to live in the state and had to leave. Many remained, one must presume, for in March of 1843, an Act of the Legislature allowed free people of color, who had been living in Louisiana continuously since 1838, to remain in the state subject to their securing an authorization from their local government body. In May of the same year, the Council of the First Municipality of New Orleans added restrictions of its own with its own with an ordinance that required the petitioner to post a bond of $1,000.

This map shows growth of the Marigny neighborhood blocking the field of fire of Ft. St. Charles, which contributed to making the fort obsolete. Jackson used the fort as barracks and headquarters around the time of the Battle of New Orleans.

Abstract
In four closely written pages, an unidentified matron of New Orleans writes this incomplete letter to her father describing life in the newly created Republic of Louisiana. Caution pervades every aspect of trade; people are collecting debts and paying off liabilities. There is, however, a large trade in cotton because of the possibility of blockade. The writer believes a blockade cannot last long. No one can safely avow Unionist sentiments. There is considerable derangement in the public offices, particularly in the post office, because of the change in government. Hotels such as the St. Charles are not as crowded as in former winters; Northerners are staying away. Furthermore, people in Natchez are selling their summer places in the North to spend their summers in Europe or the South. Martial preparations are everywhere. "Serville trouble" is not expected and not spoken of, but precautions have been taken.
