B/W photo, February 26, 1936. The Zulu King debarks on the morning of Mardi Gras in his tug boat at the head of the New Basin Canal in New Orleans, Louisiana. Written on back of photo: "The New Orleans Mardi Gras. The Zulu King Strikes a Comic Note. His African Majesty debarks on the morning of Mardi Gras in dusky splendor from his tug-barge at the head of the New Basin Canal and proceeds in his coconut-draped chariot to accept the homages of darky-town. The Zulu King is one of the more recent sideline innovations to Mardi Gras... but the comic and thousands of visitors alike. His 1936 arrival is scheduled for February 25."
