We're excited to welcome Ascension Parish Public Library to the LDL! In this Member Highlight, Christopher Achee, Assistant Library Director, tells us what's coming up.

  • What types of content do you plan to add to the LDL?

We will concentrate largely on photographs of locations and events important to the history of Ascension Parish.  We will also add yearbooks, church bulletins, advertisements from events (particularly the Jambalaya Festival), and any other flat, scannable item with historic relevance.  There will also be an oral history component.

  • What item are you most excited about adding?

We are very anxious to see what the public provides for us.  We are excited to scan the library’s own scrapbooks which go back to the library’s foundation in 1960.

  • Do you have a specific audience/group that you think will be most excited to access your content?

Local history is always a popular topic for our patrons.  As well as those interested in local history, we hope that the collection is useful for genealogists.

  • Do you see your institution as filling a particular gap in the LDL?

Ascension Parish’s history has not been well documented in general.  As the parish continues its incredible growth, we hope to preserve those moments from the past to which only our residents currently have access.

The LDL will certainly be enriched by the local history Ascension Parish will provide! We look forward to seeing these wonderful items!
