We’re excited to welcome Louisiana State Archives as a new member of the LDL. In this Member Highlight, Archives Specialist Heaven Smith explains the State Archives’ plans to contribute photographs, manuscripts, and historical government documents, including the particularly noteworthy Huey P. Long Impeachment Trial Transcripts.

What types of content do you plan to add to the LDL?
We plan to add some photographic collections, some manuscript collections, and various types of material related to state and government history (legislative documents, materials related to historic court cases in Louisiana, etc.).

What item are you most excited about adding?
One thing we are most excited to add to the LDL is the Huey P. Long Impeachment Trial Transcripts.

Do you have a specific audience/group that you think will be most excited to access your content?
We hope that our materials will be appealing to both students and long-term researchers alike. We hope by adding content through the LDL, our collections will be more accessible to a wider base of students, long-term researchers, and anyone interested in the state and governmental history of Louisiana.

Do you see your institution as filling a particular gap in the LDL?
Yes! Our institution houses collections related to the state and governmental history of Louisiana, from the colonial era to the present. For example, the State Archives houses the Original Act Books of the Louisiana Legislature, dating all the way back to statehood. Though our institution primarily houses collections related to state and government history, our collections also consist of a number of collections related to the cultural history of Louisiana.

Is there anything else you'd like people to know about your content in the LDL?
We are very excited to contribute content to the LDL and to provide visitors to the LDL site with access to our state's rich archival resources!

The LDL will certainly be enriched by the historical governmental materials that the Louisiana State Archives is eager to contribute.
