Abstract
B/W photo, August 3, 1940. Barksdale Air Field. Night school conducted by WPA education division for enlisted men. General view of students attending classes directed by Mrs. Gladys Harrison, WPA teacher. The boys are taught advanced English, mathematics, spelling, typing, bookkeeping and shorthand. Six WPA teachers conduct the classes. About 100 soldiers attend classes five nights each week for three hours. They are all high school graduates but must have more schooling to qualify them as pilots. Photo taken during World War II. The total enrollment is 250 boys who are about 20 years old. In peace time, a college degree is needed to become a pilot but due to the national defense program this rigid requirement has been lifted and only a high school education is required. Officers in charge have eliminated unimportant subjects and hold classes in mathematics necessary to aerodynamics.

Abstract
The notebook of the Johnson family, free people of color, contains notes on rent, property boundaries, children's schooling, expenses in the construction of a building, and daily events dating from March 1850 to April 1861.

Many of the notes pertain to schooling and music lessons for girls of the Johnson family. The book was was probably used by several members of the Johnson family. The notebook also contains some blank pages.

Abstract
Armand Allard Duplantier writes his brother, Guy Allard Duplantier, a triplicate letter, saying he has received a letter from the recipient care of Sarpy and another care of Allard's son. He expresses his relief that the family has survived the French Revolution as well as his regret at being financially unable to send his two oldest sons to France. He discusses education in Louisiana and refers to the dissatisfaction that locals experience when they send their children to the northern United States for schooling. The writer mentions that the recipient is married and that another war is occurring. He refers to the letter from Gabrielle Trénonay Duplantier that the late Claude Trénonay kept from Augustine Gérard Duplantier and mentions a letter from Augustine to Gabrielle that explains Augustine and Armand Duplantier’s separation from Trénonay. The addresser elaborates upon Trénonay's flaws, stressing how the late uncle was greedy, detested, and vengeful toward Duplantier and others. Duplantier discusses Trénonay's succession and refers again to the probable will made in 1765 or 1766. The writer relates troubles that farmers are having with high waters and with indigo, asserting that he is switching to cotton.

Abstract
Antoine Doussan, Baton Rouge, to Auguste Doussan in Grasse. The Doussans were an émigré French family who came to Louisiana in the wake of Napoleon's downfall. The patriarch, Antoine, a medical doctor and former soldier under Napoleon, managed the family's cotton and sugar plantation in West Baton Rouge Parish as well as French-resident members' financial affairs in Louisiana. Auguste Doussan was the younger brother of Antoine Doussan. He practiced medicine in Grasse, France, and married Louise Perrin, who was a relative of the Allain family of Louisiana.Antoine discusses what their nephew should study and what careers to pursue.

Jones gives a detailed account of his life, beginning with his childhood in West Feliciana Parish, La., through his high school, college, and law school education. He describes his army service in World War II, his position as the first African-American warrant officer, and his involvement the D-Day invasion. Jones shares recollections of racism, segregation, sit-ins, and protests in Baton Rouge and other Louisiana cities. Armand Allard Duplantier, New Orleans, tells his brother, Guy Allard Duplantier, that the writer's son Armand is taking the recipient a power of attorney that will allow the addressee to represent the addresser in Europe. Duplantier asks his brother to present his sons to their relatives in Voiron, especially the Faures. The writer expresses particular concern for Armand's education. Duplantier encloses a bill to be forwarded to Tivollier. The bill concerns indigo; John Francis Merieult; the ship Captain Josiah Burnham, destined for London via Cowes, England; Armand Duplantier; and Louis Giovellina.

Abstract
Armand Allard Duplantier addresses his sister, Eduvige Allard Duplantier, at Le Plantier in Voiron, France. He states his hopes that Poignand [Poignaud?] will bring a portrait of the Duplantiers' father when he returns to Louisiana, as the man is to accompany the writer's oldest son, Fergus, to Le Plantier before continuing to Grenoble. The addresser expresses his feelings over finally sending his oldest son to France and hopes that Dupuy will be able to instruct him. Duplantier refers to his first daughter's stepmother and black nanny as 'her white mother and her black mother,' and he announces that he has a second daughter as well. He indicates that he is expecting another child (which he believes will be a girl) and that his brother ('Allard') has two sons. He extends his best to Mme. Faure.
