Shows eleven buildings with names of the property owners along the Chemin Royal (Tchoupitoulas Street), a canal on Podras Street (Poydras Street) projected by Bertrand Gravier, and gardens. Covers area from Camp Street to Chemin Royal (Tchoupitoulas Street), and Girod Street to Gravier Street. Intersection of Magazin Street (Magazine Street) and Podras St. at center. Map is arranged with a West/East orientation, with West being at the top of the map.

Abstract: General James Wilkinson fought in the Revolutionary and Indian Wars, was a merchant, adventurer and politician. In 1803 he was appointed Commissioner of the United States in New Orleans, and later served as governor of the Louisiana Territory. Letter from John Moncure Daniel, Washington City, to Dr. Dennis Claude, Annapolis, Maryland, mentions Claude's testimony on behalf of Daniel's innocence to charges against him and refers to Wilkinson's [i. e. James Wilkinson] continued difficulties despite his having been acquitted by a court martial.

Abstract: William Machette was a ship owner of Boston, Massachusetts. This letter book was kept by William Machette, containing handwritten copies of letters to business associates in various parts of the world, including several letters to Judah Touro of New Orleans, Louisiana, and letters referring to Machette's dealings with Touro. Other letters to New Orlean's agents contain references to the Embargo and attendant difficulties.

Abstract: Signed ms. Area considered part of the Faubourg Treme, bound on either side by St. Ann Street and Bayou Road. Land is subdivided into lots. The "Promenade Publique" is marked by a later hand as "Claiborne." The Promenade is shown lined with trees. North of the subdivided squares are four buildings, the largest marked "Maison Principale," with three smaller structures hehind. Northwest/Southeast orientation, with Northwest being at the top of the map.

Abstract: This plan, removed from the Superior Court case "The Mayor, Alderman, and Inhabitants of New Orleans v. John Marie Henry, Philip Harty, et al.," is a manuscript copy of the original signed by Jacques Tanesse. Shows lines of levee with ten barracks on the city side from St. Peter to Ursulines Street and other structures on the Mississippi River side. Also shows the Place d'Armes, now known as Jackson Square.

Abstract: Louis Moreau Lislet's examination of the suit between Jean Gravier and the city of New Orleans regarding ownership of the Batture. The examination describes the history of the area from a 1763 survery to the present suit. Gravier inherited a substantial amount of land from Bertrand Gravier, to which he claimed the Batture belonged. Moreau Lislet served at the attorney for the city in a series of disputes regarding the property from 1806 to the 1820s. French property law dating back to 1566 is also discussed.

Abstract: Dispute between the City of New Orleans and Hazeur de Lorme over a security of $193.81 for Lazarus Latil. Latil reneged on a rental agreement for the public market, and Peter Chauvin Beaulieu guaranteed his recognizance. During Latil's leasing period, Beaulieu died and named De Lorme as his estate executor. File contains petition, judgement, affidavits, summons, two answers, defense notes, fieri facias, petition for appeal and bond of appeal. Petition on behalf of the City of New Orleans written by P. Derbigny. Copy of an affidavit of John Watkins, and an affidavit by [Maurice] Bourgeois, secretary of Watkins. Answers and petition for appeal written by Lewis Kerr. On Feb. 26, 1806, Judge James Workman ruled in favor of the plaintiff for the amount of the suit plus costs. Summons and fieri facias written by Thomas S. Kennedy. Noted on verso of the fieri facias that it was settled with the plaintiff's attorney on Jan. 25, 1808.

Abstract: Dispute between the City of New Orleans and Lazarus Latil over the rent of the collection of taxes of the public market. Latil leased this for the sum of $10,300 for one year beginning Jan. 23, 1805. The city's petition, written by P. Derbigny, sought payment for two month's rent at the rate of $858.333 per month. File also contains judgement, summons, answer and fieri facias. Answer written by James Cesar Pailette. On Oct. 21, 1805, Judge James Workman ruled for the plaintiff in the amount of $1716.666 plus court costs. Summons and fieri facias written by Thomas S. Kennedy. Fieri facias dated Oct. 30, 1805 and noted on verso that no property was found.
