LSUA’s Central Louisiana Collections document the history of Central Louisiana, with a special focus on Rapides Parish and the city of Alexandria.  Materials date from the mid-nineteenth century through the twentieth century and consist of local business records, records of civic organizations, and records of various families and individuals considered to have historical value. The records are in the form of manuscripts, photographs, and oral histories on audio tape. Also included are local publications contemporary to the archival collections. Collections of note are the Bolton Family Papers, the Manning-Compton Collection, City Park Players Papers, the papers of the Ameritas Italian-American Club, Garden Club Papers, Ashton Plantation Papers, Exchange Club Papers, and the archive of The Town Talk.

Central Louisiana Collections also holds the papers of former faculty member Professor Sue Lyles Eakin. Eakin researched, collected, and published on the topic of Central Louisiana history.  Her interests included Solomon Northup; African-American schools, churches, and leaders Eddie Jones, Elizabeth Johnson, Calvin Peter Thompson; Louisiana socialists; plantations and plantation life; and the painter Clementine Hunter.  The World Plantation Conference records, organized by Eakin, are among the papers donated.
