Summary
The purpose of this current study was to determine whether a dog being present can change an individual’s mood. Students (n=19) had the chance to interact with a dog during a meeting two weeks after midterms ended at Louisiana State University at Alexandria (LSUA). Before starting the experiment, the individuals filled out a demographic questionnaire providing some personal information for the study, a consent form, a waiver, and the Brief Mood Introspection Scale (BMIS) to determine their mood before and after interaction with the dog. After the participants have interacted with the dog, they were to fill out the BMIS mood scale again to evaluate whether their mood has changed. Statistically significant qualities included happiness, loving, caring, content, and lively. Results indicated participants had a positive mood change after interaction with the dog.
