Abstract
Letters from Joseph Thomas to John McDonogh refer to frontier conditions along the Amite River and the bayou around Barbara, Louisiana. Thomas reports on plantation matters including sugarcane, corn, potato, and pumpkin cultivation. He also discusses the construction of roads, the illegal felling of McDonogh's timber, and his concerns that Shepherd Brown, McDonogh's partner, may attack the people of Bayou.

Abstract
Financial records of Jean Baptiste Meullion, a free man of color, including a slave bill of sale for his purchase of Terry, aged 20 years, from Patrick Gurnett. Other documents include a bill of sale from Monato Company as well as receipts from M. Brunot and Richard Bailey. Also present is the will of Maria Louise Tailleffer (Pouponne), a free woman of color, giving Baptiste's family her land and several horses. Three documents are in French.

Abstract
Chiefly letters written by Lewis H. Guerlain (active 1784-1858) to John McDonogh concerning the management of Guerlain's corn and sugarcane plantation, Long View. Guerlain discusses purchases of enslaved persons, illnesses, and runaway slaves as well as the status of his crops. Also present are two letters by R. R. (Ralph Randolph) Gurley (1797-1872) who describes the conditions in Liberia and the legal battles facing the American Colonization Society in the mid-1840s.

Abstract
Statement of George German taken by A. Vincento at Baton Rouge and witnessed by William Griffin and Thomas Egan regarding a dispute over and possible damage to a river landing on German's land, which was located on the batture of the Mississippi River. On the verso of this letter is a judgement from Thomas Estevan that John M. Pintard will reimburse another man for the salvage of his boat and associated court costs.

United States Attorney, 1810-1813 * Born in Virginia in 1786 * Arrived in New Orleans around 1807, to join his older brother, Philip Grymes, who served as United States Attorney * Upon his brother's death in 1810, became United States Attorney, prosecuting pirates and privateers * After he prepared a petition against Jean Lafitte in 1813, resigned as United States Attorney, later representing Lafitte along with attorney Edward Livingston * Represented the notorious Madame Lalaurie, accused of torturing her slaves * Represented Myra Clark Gaines in her long-running suit against the City of New Orleans related to the dispute over her father's will * Served as one of Major General Andrew Jackson's aides at the Battle of New Orleans * Married Susanna Bosque Claiborne, the third wife and widow of William C. C. Claiborne, the first American Governor of Louisiana * Died in New Orleans in 1855 * Interred in St. Louis No. 1.

Abstract
This plan, removed from the Superior Court case "The Mayor, Alderman, and Inhabitants of New Orleans v. John Marie Henry, Philip Harty, et al.," is a manuscript copy of the original signed by Jacques Tanesse. Shows lines of levee with ten barracks on the city side from St. Peter to Ursulines Street and other structures on the Mississippi River side. Also shows the Place d'Armes, now known as Jackson Square.

Abstract
Louis Moreau Lislet's examination of the suit between Jean Gravier and the city of New Orleans regarding ownership of the Batture. The examination describes the history of the area from a 1763 survery to the present suit. Gravier inherited a substantial amount of land from Bertrand Gravier, to which he claimed the Batture belonged. Moreau Lislet served at the attorney for the city in a series of disputes regarding the property from 1806 to the 1820s. French property law dating back to 1566 is also discussed.

Abstract
Julien Poydras de Lalande, a property owner in Point Coupee Parish and New Orleans, published five pamphlets in support of the people's rights in the Batture controversy in the early 1800s. He mentions the works of Peter Stephen Du Ponceau and J.B.S. Thierry on the Batture, and condemns Edward Livingston, who represented the opposing side. Jean Gravier, the heir of Bertrand Gravier, claimed ownership of the Batture.

An account of expeditions to the sources of the Mississippi and through the western parts of Louisiana to the sources of the Arkansaw, Kans, La Platte, and Pierre Jaun Rivers. Performed by order of the government of the United States during the years 1805, 1806, and 1807. And a tour through the interior parts of New Spain, when conducted through these provinces by order of the captain-general, in the year 1807.
