Abstract: Dispute between the lawyer Francis Hernandez and the merchant Paul Lanusse regarding the administration of George M. Swiney's estate. File contains petition, summons, answer, judgement and estate account. Petition, signed by L. Moreau Lislet, of Hernandez claimed that when Swiney died in 1804, Lanusse served as administrator of his estate, but refused to pay Eleanor Swiney, mother of George, her share. William Alesse, Swiney's husband is also listed in the petition. George Swiney wrote his will in 1799 in New York according to the petition. Summons written by Thomas S. Kennedy. Answer written by P. Derbigny. Account of the estate of George M. Swiney written by Lanusse. On Oct. 27, 1806, Judge James Workman ruled in favor of the plaintiff in the amount of his demand.

Abstract: In 1806, Will and testament of Maria Olivares, widow of Joseph Galvez of New Orleans. She declared that she was born in the Canary Islands, the legitimate daughter of Andres Hernandez and Josefa Olivares. She was a resident of Barataria, where she owned land and some sixty head of cattle. Her properties included two enslaved persons, a Bautista (a male of 55 years of age) and Maria (a female of 35 years of age), and the latter was to be freed after the death of Mrs. Galvez. She appointed as the executors and universal heirs of her estate Maria Dauberville, widow Bouligny, and Luis Bouligny. In Spanish.

He leaves money to friends and relatives in London, Scotland. Property and many thousands of dollars are left to his former slaves. Milne bequeaths his homes in New Orleans and Lafayette to become asylums for the relief of destitute orphans. As issued by the New Orleans notary public Carlisle Pollock. Abstract: Primarily financial and legal documents of Joseph Perot, a free man of color, and Louis Fort. Of note is a true copy of an act of manumission by Louis Fort for a woman (described as a mulatto) named Angélique (1819), and, a document for the sale of a mortgage and a 20-year-old enslaved man named Joe to Joseph Perot by Aimee Barborousse Pantaléon, widow of Isidore Pantaléon (1840).

Legal contracts include a land sale contract between Louis Fort and John Baptiste Buard, the last will and testament of Louis Fort (1823), and a land grant for land formally owned by Louis Fort by the widow of the late Jean Baptiste Buard to Marie Rosalie Perot, Pierre Edmond, and Louis Onesime (1840).

Financial documents include bills for dry goods, a promissory note by Joseph Perot for the cost of gun repair (1848), and a statement of account from Dupleix Brothers to Madeleine, a free woman of color (dated 1853-1855). Other members of the Perot family, Buard family, and the Pelagie family are also represented. All but five documents are in French.

Abstract: Text, February 3, 1821. Last Will of the Late Philippe Du Closlange, Deceased. No. 73012 [born in Paris France in 1762]. Civil District Court for the Parish of New Orleans... Signed Jas. Pitot, Judge. The will states Closlange has nine illegitimate children from the freewoman Eulalie Bacchus and includes ratifying acts of emancipation to her and the aforementioned children. His property within the city, including his slaves, are documented and given estimated monetary values. Closlange bequeathed his property in New Orleans and Europe, including his slaves, to Bacchus and her illegitimate children or his brother if the man is alive.
